Risk Management Seminar at PSU | Southeast Kansas Business ...

The PSU Accounting department, in coordination with Fountain GRC Consulting, is planning an exciting event for the Pittsburg and surrounding business community.

In today?s volatile business economy, awareness of issues such as risk management, corporate governance ethics and compliance are becoming increasingly important for organizations to establish a successful business practice.? Many of the issues facing corporate America today are difficult to teach in an administrative setting.?? The value of business experience and knowledge as well as lessons learned from past business encounters are evolving as important concepts for our future business leaders to understand.

We have organized a unique seminar to bring business professionals of the community together with our young students to share and discuss how these issues are being managed in real day corporate scenarios. In addition, in the aftermath of the Joplin tornado last year, businesses have learned the importance of risk management and crisis event planning.

We will be featuring Ms. Shelly Hunter, CFO from Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO as the Key Note speaker to talk to the hospital?s actions post the tornado.? In addition, Mr. Ben Burns from Leggett & Platt in Carthage will speak about his company?s risk management and internal control practices.? Both Ms. Hunter and Mr. Burns received degrees from PSU.? Also, Tom Andreesen, Managing? Director at Protiviti, will be addressing the evolving world of information technology risks.

Lynn Fountain, President of Fountain GRC LLC is a Pittsburg native and also received her undergraduate degree in Accounting from Pittsburg State University.? She has over 25 years of experience in Corporate America in risk management, governance, ethics, fraud evaluations and board level communications.? She will present on topics related to these issues.

This event is being co-sponsored by Ms. Fountain and the PSU Accounting department.? Part of the proceeds will go to support the PSU Endorsed Internal Auditing program of which Ms. Fountain was a founding board member.? We hope to make this a very successful event and attract many attendees from the four state area including past graduates of PSU who have gone on to their own business and personal careers.
