Aspire Active inspires nation with annual Nutrition Week | PR 2.O ...

2202Aspire Active, Qatar?s exercise, fitness, and health community program, organized their annual Nutrition Awareness Week, which ran from the 6th - 10th of May.

As part of its mission to promote healthy fitness and nutrition lifestyle choices, Aspire Active used Nutrition Week to emphasize the impact of food choices and lifestyle on health, and proactively address the increasing rise of non-communicable diseases.

Aspire Active provided necessary nutrition information, encouraging the public to make simple, healthy decisions in their daily life.

This year?s focus was Health and Ageing, which was a continuation of the 2012 World Health Day ?Ageing and Health: Good Health adds Life to Years? campaign, a worldwide call recognizing that we have a choice to health. The event?s focus was to promote the concept that appropriate nutrition intake along with regular exercise improves the quality of life and wellbeing.

Aspire Active organized a multitude of activities for both men and women.

Aspire Active Ladies were given the opportunity to partake in two special classes which ran during the week, ?Anti-Osteoporosis? class and ?Anti-Ageing/Stress Yoga.?

Aspire Active nutritionists prepared colorful educational handouts outlining fruit and vegetable diets and the nutritional values of specific foods for both men and women.

Additionally, Aspire Active Men competed in a three-month weight loss program. In line with Nutrition Week, all participants were given feedback and advice on sustaining the weight loss by a dedicated nutritionist and fitness expert.

Dr. Leonieke Richardson, Head of Aspire Active, said, ?Aspire Active is very excited about Nutrition Week this year. It was a fantastic opportunity to communicate to the local population the importance of health and fitness, especially when internationally obesity is on the rise.?

?We are hoping that we will inspire people to make permanent lifestyle changes,? Dr. Richardson added.

Following Nutrition Week is the Aspire Active male and female Aquatics Challenge ?Boot Camp,? which is to be held from the 14th - 16th of May. A recent addition to the monthly Aquatics time table, the workout combines challenging exercise with aquatic fitness equipment, ultimately allowing participants to experience the benefits of water exercise.

Nutrition Week is part of Aspire Active?s annual educational initiatives, and is celebrated every year in an attempt to raise awareness of health amongst the general population.
