Nexus 4 gets high-demand status sales restrictions from eBay

Nexus 4

While nobody is sure how many Nexus 4s have been sold, eBay thinks the demand is high enough to warrant sales restrictions. Normally reserved for things like iPad's an Nintendo Wiis, these rules cover how many phones sellers can list.

You may list a Google Nexus 4 with some limitations:

  • Authorized resellers will be allowed to list an unlimited number of items per week.
  • eBay Top Rated Sellers will be allowed to list up to 8 items per week.
  • All sellers meeting minimum performance standards will be allowed to list 4 items per week.
  • New sellers who’ve confirmed their personal information may list 1 item per week.

Note: Sellers not meeting minimum performance standards or that haven’t confirmed their personal information will not be allowed to list the Google Nexus 4 during the post-launch sale period.

Google Nexus 4 Domain Name and Email Address Sales

Sellers offering Google Nexus 4-related domain names or email addresses for sale on eBay will be allowed up to 4 listings per week.

Officially used to prevent fraud on high-profile items, it's a pretty good feeling to see a Nexus phone get this sort of treatment. If you're planning on selling a Nexus 4, hit the source link to read up on everything.

QU Physical Therapy Students Use Wheelchairs to Deepen ...

Hannah Wood, a fourth-year physical therapy student at Quinnipiac University, was among the physical therapy students who recently spent 24 hours in wheelchairs to deepen their understanding of disabled patients.

For Meaghan Lynch, a third-year physical therapy student in theSchool of Health Sciences?at?Quinnipiac University, the biggest challenge using a wheelchair was simply getting from one class to the next.

?I was struck by how much preparation is involved in doing daily activities,? explained Lynch, who spent 24 hours in a wheelchair as part of a project by students in the?entry-level doctor of physical therapy program. The usually self-reliant Lynch, from Kingston, Mass., learned quickly that she had to depend on other people to help her navigate across campus or find an alternative way to reach an item on a high shelf in a dining hall.

It was only one day in November, but it was enough time to gain valuable insight into some of the challenges people with disabilities face?an experience she says will help her as she enters the physical therapy profession.

That was the goal of this independent project on cultural competency, designed by fourth-year physical therapy students Keith Yatauro, of Perrineville, N.J., and Valerie Thompson of Centereach, N.Y. They recruited 11 volunteers, from freshmen to graduate students, to spend 24 hours in a wheelchair without changing their daily routine.

Yatauro said he wanted the experience to help future physical therapists to improve communicate with disabled patients and provide better health care. They also hoped the participants? presence in wheelchairs would raise awareness among the students they encountered on campus. Participants said it was a learning experience that could not be replicated in a classroom.

?To see someone accidentally slam the door on you, to have to go up a steep ramp, to make your way through a crowded hallway?those are things that I don?t know you could describe in a book,? said Thompson, who also participated. ?Some of these things are so miniscule, but so impactful.?

Participants said they were acutely aware of how much space they took up in a room. Some were surprised by the awkward reaction they received; others were frustrated by the difficulty of finding elevators or accessible entrances. In addition to the social challenges, the experience highlighted some of the physical difficulties that can be addressed in the clinic with adaptive technologies, as well as specific functional activities that can strengthen mobility for people using wheelchairs. Students also recognized the importance of focusing on the person and their unique needs.

?It?s easy to put on your white coat and treat a person with a disability as a patient and not see them as a whole person,? Thompson added.

Thompson and Yatauro began the project after they came across research that found that many health professionals have difficulties interacting with patients who have disabilities. They plan to create a video about the project for the Quinnipiac community.

Hannah Wood, a fourth-year physical therapy student from Seneca Falls, N.Y., said she has gained a new perspective on what it means to live with a disability. ?I experienced a lot more challenges than I expected,? she said. ?It made me appreciate how much more people with disabilities go through.?

Alessandra Relationships Central ? Natural Male Enhancement ...

Natural male enhancement to get a penis size up to 9 in . in length, more thickness, a harder erection, a larger flaccid size, and also enhance your performance in the bedroom is not just probable, it may be guaranteed. The keyword to pay attention to in that previous sentence is ?can?. And that?s because it?s vital that you follow down a wise path if you want to effectively (and naturally) enhance your manhood? without the typical consequences.

In this post here I?m going to share with you my top 4 tips for getting an incredible manhood which i unfortunately needed to learn the tough way. The good news is that I took action, I made mistakes, and i also learned from. The good thing for you is that you be able to take advantage of the understanding I gained to make sure you start on the right feet with increasing your size.

Listed below are My Top 4 Tips To Increase Your Manhood? Effortlessly, Naturally, And also Faster You Think?

1 . Eat right and exercise? Are you surprised? Were you anticipating me to say on the first tip some thing along the lines of ?strap upon 50 pounds of metal to your penis and get bigger in two days?? Well my good friend, contrary to what you could see usually on the web, the initial step to get a bigger diathesis is actually to improve your overall health.

Exactly why is that important?

Properly, consider it: Your penis is mounted on your whole body, right? I hope it is! (LOL) Properly, what you do using the rest of your whole body will also have an effect on your manhood as well.

By consuming healthier (such as getting more fresh fruits, nuts, proteins, healthy body fat, and antioxidants) in your diet, you will definitely make a natural penile enhancement method A lot more effective. The key reason why is because healthy eating promotes stronger blood circulation. Stronger blood circulation into your penile shaft = a larger, harder, and healthier penile!

So far as fitness is concerned, exercising assists with 2 ways. One, it helps also with increasing blood circulation. And also secondly, it helps with decreasing tension. Too much tension can most certainly cause erection issues.

second . Avoid unnatural enlargement methods? Unnatural enlargement techniques will not only prevent you from getting which penis size you have always dreamed of getting, they are going to also cause several pretty disturbing side-effects with your manhood. Some of these side-effects can in fact be long term.

It is vital that you avoid unnatural techniques not just because of side-effects, but also the potential of developing diseases and possibly getting a deformed penile (which is the greatest side-effect of surgery)!

In the event that all that wasn?t sufficient, unnatural techniques (ironically) cost much more than effective natural methods! Go determine!

4. Stick with organic male enhancement? If you want to obtain all those amazing advantages I mentioned in the beginning informed, then a only way you will definitely arrive is with natural methods. The key reason why is because only a organic method is efficient at doing EVERYTHING necessary to increase your size, increase your performance, and boost the health of the male organ.

The best natural method which i recommend (and personally used myself with incredible results) are natural penile exercises.

Exercising your manhood is a surefire method to get all of the benefits of a proper endowed male organ. It is because exercising your manhood increases blood flow, they enhance your PC muscles, they enlarge your penile chambers, and much more. Because of how complete this method is, this only makes sense that this method would result in a COMPLETELY improved male organ.

Main point here, if you want to develop, get more powerful, and get healthier with your diathesis, then I recommend you eat healthier and exercise a minimum of 3 times per week, avoid unnatural enlargement techniques, and stick with all natural enhancement (such as penis exercises). Before you know it, you and your partner will certainly be enjoying some pretty extreme quality time together? if you catch my go!

Are you ready to Enlarge Your Penis QUICK, grow longer and thicker in weeks, and give your lover SHOUTING orgasms? Well, I highly recommend the Penis Advantage workout program. This award winning program is safe, efficient, permanent, and you can download every thing INSTANTLY (no embarrassing prevents at a store or packages to receive)! I went from 5. five inches to seven. 5 inches within 8 weeks using this powerful plan!

> > For additional information, click on http://www.IncreasePenisSizeFast.info to learn more!

CAUTION: The program is EXTREMELY efficient, and I recommend you stop the program for 48-72 hrs if you start to grow more than an inch inside a weeks moment.

Carolina Panthers v Philadelphia EaglesGetty Images

With 176 games completed, the gap has been cut from seven to two.

After a four-game sweep of our disagreements in Week 11, MDS posted another 3-1 mark in Week 12, making it very interesting over the final five weeks.

This week, we have only one disagreement.? So it?ll be down to one or back to three by Monday.? (I are good at the math.)

Of course, that doesn?t mean we?ll be right on the picks on which we agree.? But we?re doing OK.? MDS was 11-5 for Week 12, and I was 9-7.? For the season, I?m at 112-63-1, a 63.6 percent accuracy rate.? MDS is 110-65-1, which equates to 62.5 percent.

Saints at Falcons

MDS?s take: It sounds crazy to say this about a 5-6 team facing a 10-1 team, but right now the Saints are playing better football than the Falcons. Having said that, I have a hunch the Falcons will turn in their best effort of the season at home against the team that gave them their only loss.

MDS?s pick: Falcons 28, Saints 21.

Florio?s take:? An already contentious rivalry will become even more contentious now that eggs have flown into the Saints bus and former Falcons linebacker Curtis Lofton has declared that his new team, the Saints, don?t regard the rivalry as a rivalry, given that the Saints have won 11 of 13.? With the Falcons closing in on a playoff berth and sensitive about the perception that they can?t win big games at home, it?s time to drop the Saints? mark against the Falcons to 11 of 14.

Florio?s pick:? Falcons 27, Saints 24.

Jaguars at Bills

MDS?s take: Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne has been impressive enough since replacing Blaine Gabbert that I?m tempted to pick the Jags to pull off a home upset. But these are still the Jaguars, and even if Henne has improved the offense, they still have a terrible defense, plus the Bills have a big special teams edge.

MDS?s pick: Bills 27, Jaguars 23.

Florio?s take:? The Jags are riding a rare one-game winning streak.? The Bill are trying to break a not-so-rare one-game losing streak.? Home team gets the advantage, even though the Jaguars are better with Chad Henne at quarterback.

Florio?s pick:? Bills 24, Jaguars 17.

Seahawks at Bears

MDS?s take: This might be the day?s most interesting game, especially if you enjoy watching teams that play tough, physical defense. I think Seattle?s defensive front has the potential to make life a nightmare for Jay Cutler playing behind the Bears? woeful offensive line, and yet the Seahawks have struggled so much away from home that I?m taking the Bears in a close one.

MDS?s pick: Bears 14, Seahawks 13.

Florio?s take:? It?s chicken salad time for the Chicago offensive line, with failed first-round tackle Gabe Carimi being pressed into service at guard.? But Jay Cutler knows how to avoid the pressure and deliver the ball, and the Seahawks still haven?t learned how to win on the road.

Florio?s pick:? Bears 23, Seahawks 13.

Colts at Lions

MDS?s take: The Lions are playing better football than their record suggests, while the Colts are playing worse football than their record suggests. I still think Indianapolis will be a wild card team, but in this game Calvin Johnson will have a huge day against a weak secondary.

MDS?s pick: Lions 31, Colts 20.

Florio?s take:? Assuming that the Lions haven?t folded the tents after a season-crushing Thanksgiving loss, they?ve got the horses to hold off a Colts team that has yet to learn how to win away from Indy consistently.

Florio?s pick:? Lions 27, Colts 20.

Vikings at Packers

MDS?s take: Green Bay had a letdown against the Giants last week, but that won?t happen again. This is the game when the Packers pull ahead of the pack in the NFC wild card race, as well as staying within striking distance of the Bears in the NFC North.

MDS?s pick: Packers 34, Vikings 13.

Florio?s take:? Minnesota has embarked on its long-expected late-season collapse, and the Packers will be extra salty after getting peppered by the Giants.? This one could get ugly.

Florio?s pick:? Packers 34, Vikings 13.

Panthers at Chiefs

MDS?s take: It?s too late for the Panthers to get back in the playoff race, but I do see them going on a little bit of a late-season run. With Cam Newton playing well, they?ll easily win in Kansas City.

MDS?s pick: Panthers 27, Chiefs 9.

Florio?s take:? The Chiefs can?t lose every game the rest of the season, can they?? Carolina is on the road after a Monday night on the road, cramming two rounds of travel into a short week after a game in which they are feeling better about themselves than they should.? The Chiefs, if they don?t win this one, may not win another.? Ever.

Florio?s pick:? Chiefs 20, Panthers 16.

Patriots at Dolphins

MDS?s take: I like a lot about the way the Dolphins are playing, especially defensively. And the Patriots? secondary has a bad tendency to leave receivers wide open, so Ryan Tannehill may have a decent statistical game. But New England?s offense is such a well-oiled machine that I like the Patriots to get into the end zone five or six times.

MDS?s pick: Patriots 38, Dolphins 28.

Florio?s take:? The Dolphins will win if the sprinklers come on again.? And if the are loaded with hydrochloric acid and aimed at the eyes of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.? Otherwise, advantage Pats.

Florio?s pick:? Patriots 35, Dolphins 24.

Cardinals at Jets

MDS?s take: This is a stinker of a game between two teams with all kinds of problems at the quarterback position, but it says something about how far the Cardinals have sunk that Mark Sanchez is easily the top quarterback in this game.

MDS?s pick: Jets 20, Cardinals 10.

Florio?s take:? It?s easy to assume the Jets will continue their implosion.? The schedule suggests they could win five in a row.? They may not get to 9-7, but 5-7 is looking pretty promising.

Florio?s pick:? Jets 30, Cardinals 17.

49ers at Rams

MDS?s take: I don?t think this game is going to be easy for the 49ers because St. Louis isn?t an easy place to play anymore, but in the end San Francisco just has too much power on both sides of the ball for the Rams to have much of a chance.

MDS?s pick: 49ers 24, Rams 13.

Florio?s take:? They pick up where they left off after five quarters that ended in a tie.? The Rams try to extend their 3-0-1 record in the NFC West.? The Niners are simply a better team with Colin Kaepernick at quarterback.

Florio?s pick:? 49ers 31, Rams 23.

Texans at Titans

MDS?s take: The Titans fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer this week, as if that will fix anything. The Titans? problems go much deeper than the offensive playcalling, and the Texans ? getting a well deserved three extra days of rest following their back-to-back overtime games the last two weeks ? will look fresh and win this one handily.

MDS?s pick: Texans 41, Titans 20.

Florio?s take:? Yes, before the season I thought the the Titans, who were unexpectedly 9-7 in 2011, were poised to topple the Texans.? It hasn?t happened.? And it won?t happen for the Titans on Sunday, not with the Texans closing in on their second straight playoff berth.

Florio?s pick:? Texans 27, Titans 14.

Buccaneers at Broncos

MDS?s take: The Bucs are thin in the secondary after trading away Aqib Talib and losing Eric Wright to a suspension, and Peyton Manning is the last quarterback you want to face when you?re thin in the secondary. Manning will pick the Bucs? defense apart. The best chance the Bucs have of keeping this game close is to control the ball by running Doug Martin, but in the end Manning will just have too much for Tampa Bay.

MDS?s pick: Broncos 35, Buccaneers 24.

Florio?s take:? With Eric Wright suspended and Aqib Talib long gone, it?ll be a long day for the Bucs? porous pass defense.

Florio?s pick:? Broncos 31, Buccaneers 21.

Steelers at Ravens

MDS?s take: The Steelers need this one, but they?re not going to get it. Without Ben Roethlisberger the Steelers just aren?t a very good team, and I expect the Ravens to earn a big win that helps them pull away in the AFC North.

MDS?s pick: Ravens 23, Steelers 7.

Florio?s take:? With or without Ben Roethlisberger, the Ravens are tough to beat at home.? And even though it would be fitting for the Steelers to win in Baltimore after the Ravens won in Pittsburgh, the Ravens are the better team ? and the Steelers are on the verge of a late-season implosion.? All that?s left is for coach Mike Tomlin to vow to ?unleash hell.?

Florio?s pick:? Ravens 19, Steelers 13.

Browns at Raiders

MDS?s take: Both teams are 3-8, but they?re a different 3-8. The Browns are a 3-8 team that is playing competitive football and has a lot of young guys who look hungry. The Raiders are a 3-8 team that just wrapped up an 0-4 November in which their four losses came by a total of 90 points. The Browns will go into the Black Hole and come out with their first road win of the season.

MDS?s pick: Browns 21, Raiders 17.

Florio?s take:? The Browns are better than their record suggests.? The Raiders are worse.? With Browns players trying to save the job of their head coach (and in turn their own jobs), Cleveland has more incentive to try to emerge with a win.

Florio?s pick:? Browns 17, Raiders 13.

Bengals at Chargers

MDS?s take: The Bengals are rolling and the Chargers are reeling. Marvin Lewis will take another step toward the playoffs while Norv Turner takes another step toward the unemployment line.

MDS?s pick: Bengals 24, Chargers 14.

Florio?s take:? San Diego?s AFC North tour continues, and they wish it wouldn?t.? After losing to the Browns and to the Ravens, a surging Cincinnati team is ready to keep pushing toward their first consecutive playoff appearances in non-strike years.

Florio?s pick:? Bengals 27, Chargers 17.

Eagles at Cowboys

MDS?s take: The Eagles have given up on the season. At this point I don?t think I?d pick them to beat anyone, and I certainly won?t pick them to win on the road against a Cowboys team that still has slim playoff hopes.

MDS?s pick: Cowboys 28, Eagles 20.

Florio?s take:? Philly is in a full-blown free fall.? After seeing them lose to the lowly Panthers, I?m done picking them until next September at the earliest.? The Cowboys aren?t much better, but they?re good enough (and sufficiently healthier) to get it done.

Florio?s pick:? Cowboys 34, Eagles 20.

Giants at Redskins

MDS?s take: The Redskins have done a great job of pulling themselves back into NFC East contention, and if you want to see an interesting playoff race in December you should be rooting for the Redskins to beat the Giants on Monday night. But Robert Griffin III playing so well as a rookie has masked the fact that the Redskins have big problems on both sides of the ball. The Giants will be too much for them.

MDS?s pick: Giants 34, Redskins 17.

Florio?s take:? The Giants have awoken from their slumber.? That may not be enough to contain a streaking RG3 in his Monday night debut.? Forced to make a choice, however, let?s stick with the team that has shown that it still has the ability to periodically play up to its potential.? Especially when it has to.

Florio?s pick:? Giants 31, Redskins 27.

Chimp Comedy Brings the Blues

Costumed chimps used to make me grin ear to ear when I saw them on TV. Now I realize there?s little that separates that delight from coveting a Chinese potion made from rhino tusks. It is sad to lose this pleasure, but somehow I?ll manage.

After a visit to Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leone, I knew my days of snickering at chimps imitating actors were over. As it turns out, many other non-Africans have delighted in chimps before me. Since 1950, the small West African country exported more than 2,000 live chimps to the US, Japan, and Europe for the entertainment industry and for biomedical research. A law restricting such exports was passed in the eighties, but chimps continued to be owned within Sierra Leone, typically by tourists and expatriates including Peace Corps volunteers [reference 1]. A young chimp sells for US$61 on average, which is a pretty price in a country where most people survive on less than $1 per day.

Young chimps are super cute! But as they age, the jungle within appears. They flip tables, tear down drapes, and occasionally attack. A grown chimp is far stronger than a grown man, and it bears fiercer teeth. (Remember when Travis the chimp, a former star in Coca Cola and Old Navy commercials, mauled Charla Nash in Connecticut?) People tend to ditch their pet chimps once they?ve grown, but these human-raised creatures can no longer fend for themselves in the wild, and zoos often turn them away because they do not know how to integrate within chimp society.

?

Chimps at Tacugama from Amy Maxmen on Vimeo.

Thus, in 1995, an accountant in Sierra Leone, Bala Amarasekaran, established Tacugama Chimp Sanctuary to rehabilitate orphaned chimps, and to advocate against the chimpanzee pet trade. Some of the sanctuary?s chimps are donated by expatriates who no longer want their pets. Others are discovered within cages in abandoned houses, or chained by the road for sale. More recently, authorities confiscate illegally owned chimps because of a 2007 law prohibiting the capture, killing, or possession of chimps in Sierra Leone, and bring them to Tacugama.

A skinny Sierra Leonean man with a lazy eye and a warm demeanor named Moses Kappia led my tour of Tacugama Sanctuary. As we watched chimps howl and bounce through various rehabilitation enclosures, we talked about the history of the sanctuary.

When Kappia arrived at Tacugama 16 years ago, he watched it blossom with start-up donations from the European Union. Soon after, the sanctuary struggled to survive as civil war ripped through Sierra Leone. In 1997, rebels broke into the sanctuary and threatened to kill the chimpanzees for food, but Kappia and the few remaining staff convinced them to spare the animals. Instead, the rebels stole their belongings, their food, and the food and medicine intended for the chimps. The rebels returned again during that brutal, 11-year ?blood diamond? war, and again Kappia defended the chimps.

As the war wound down in 2002, Tacugama joined together with other African primate sanctuaries in the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance. They still struggle for funds, but manage to care for nearly 100 orphaned chimps that now frolic in their fenced-in slice of jungle.

Ali, my taxi driver, accompanied me on the tour. Inspired by Kappia, he vowed to report any chimps he discovered being sold or kept. And on the ride home, Ali said that he?d let any ?white people? in his taxi know that he could take them to see (not buy) the chimps ? just a 20 minute drive from the capital city of Freetown.

Back in the US, I?ve taken note of the Captive Primate Safety Act that has languished in Congress since 2007. It seeks to protect monkeys, chimps and other primates from the exotic pet trade in the US. The Humane Society suggests that people urge their legislators to support the act when it is reintroduced next year.

Kappia managed to convince rebels notorious for rape, amputations, and other crimes against humanity to leave the chimps alone. So when he asked me why our civil society continues to allow chimp pets and promotes chimps as entertainment despite the harm that then befalls our closest cousins, I felt lame answering, because we think it?s funny.

Groupon CEO Andrew Mason: ?The Plane Crash Is Much More Interesting Than The Safe Landing?

Groupon-Logo1During Business Insider’s Ignition conference, Groupon CEO Andrew Mason commented yesterday’s stories about his role at the company. AllThingsD reported that the board was discussing whether the company needed a new CEO. Mason replied by stating that “it would be weird if the Board wasn’t discussing whether I’m the right guy for the job.” Groupon has gained traction in an entirely new space and a lot of questions remain. “There is so much exciting stuff happening at the company”, Mason said. He emphasized the big opportunities in front of the company. “We will look back at those stories and will be proud that we got over them,” he continued. According to Mason, with 40 million active customers, Groupon is trying to do what Amazon has done for products, but with local businesses. On the other hand, goods deals are a way to take what the company has learned from local deals and apply it to goods. This year, Groupon’s stock has been drastically down. It was trading at over $24 and is now trading at exactly $4.00 a share. Mason said that Groupon is optimizing the stock for three or four years. Most of the interview was about how the press reports on Groupon’s activities. He said that many articles “countered each other” and don’t depict the reality. International growth and goods deals have surprised the company. Finally, Mason reiterated that he is the right guy for the job. “If I thought I wasn’t the guy, I would be the first person to stand up,” he said. “I think we have the strategy, I think we have the team and the board sees that,” he continued.

Mark Carney Monetary Policy - Business Insider

The response to the Bank of England's selection of Bank of Canada chief Mark Carney to be its next chief is being met with near universal praise.

Given how explosive subjects of monetary policy are (at least in popular discussion) the lack of controversy is Surprising.

A lot of attention has been paid to the fact that Carney represents a force for strong bank regulation (Canada didn't have a banking meltdown), something the UK feels it needs given the various busts and scandals that have affected its banks.

Just last month, Sid Verma of Euromoney did an extremely in-depth Mark Carney profile, examining his role as "Finance's New Statesman."

In all the discussion about Carney as a bank regulator, there really hasn't been much talk of him as a practitioner of the interest rate setting side of central banking. It turns out he's really solid there too.

First off, nobody really has described him as? "dove" or a "hawk" which is probably a good thing, as he's not boxed in to some arbitrary label.

That being said, during the crisis he made some excellent moves.

Verma writes at Euromoney:

The epoch-making feature of his tenure as governor remains the decision to cut the overnight rate by 50bp in March 2008, just one month after his appointment. While the European Central Bank delivered a rate increase in July of that year, Carney?s market instincts rightly judged that the leveraged-loan crisis would trigger global contagion.

And when policy rates in Canada hit the effective lower-bound, the central bank combated the crisis with the nonstandard monetary tool: the "conditional commitment?" in April 2009 to hold the policy rate for at least one year, in a boost to domestic credit conditions and market confidence more generally. Output and employment began to recover from mid-2009, in part thanks to monetary stimulus.??

In his comment on the announcement, Goldman Sachs's Kevin Daly also brought up the "conditional commitment" aspect of his 2009 announcement.

?It is difficult to speculate on the policy implications of an appointment such as this, not least because Mr. Carney will have only one vote (of nine) on the MPC. But the BoC Governor has a reputation for being a policy pragmatist and innovator (under his tenure, the BoC was the first G7 central bank to introduce the conditional rate commitment in 2009). Relative to the conservative approach towards credit easing that the BoE has adopted under Governor King?s stewardship, it is also possible that Governor Carney may be prepared to engage in more ?unconventional? forms of QE. Mr. Carney is also perceived in some quarters as being a dove, although this perception may simply be ?state dependent? (i.e. his relatively dovish stance reflected the weak state of the global economy during his tenure at the BoC).

Carney was ahead of the curve on this move.

The world of central banking/monetary policy has moved in the direction of recognizing that when policy hits the "Zero Lower Bound" (short term rates are at zero), a powerful tool is language, future promises, and conditions.

That's why there's so much interest in the Fed's indication that it won't hike rates until 2015 and the Evan's Rule, which would commit the Fed to low rates until either inflation or unemployment hit key thresholds.

So here's what the Bank of Canada announced on April, 2009:

With monetary policy now operating at the effective lower bound for the overnight policy rate, it is appropriate to provide more explicit guidance than is usual regarding its future path so as to influence rates at longer maturities. Conditional on the outlook for inflation, the target overnight rate can be expected to remain at its current level until the end of the second quarter of 2010 in order to achieve the inflation target. The Bank will continue to provide such guidance in its scheduled interest rate announcements as long as the overnight rate is at the effective lower bound.

This early use of language and rules was cited by monetary economist Michael Woodford in a highly influential paper at Jackson Hole, wherein he noted that this (the novel) language seemed to have a noticeable effect on market-based expectations of future policy.

In just the last few years, there's been a lot more work done on promises, targeting, commitments, conditionality in so forth. But Carney was an early innovator.

ADDED: One other point. As noted above, in addition to his April 2009 move, Carney cut rates in March 2008, just one month after his appointment as head of the Bank of Canada. This move deserves praise for a unique reason, which is that there's an observed phenomenon of central bankers acting hawkish right when they take office to establish credibility (Here's a paper on that phenomenon). The fact that Carney didn't succumb to that cliche, but instead recognized the situation of the moment is a high testament to his judgment.

For more on the power of language commitments, see here >

GaryMoller.com - Health, Fitness - Naturally!: Is there a better ...

A morbidly obese teenager and her mother consult a weight-loss surgeon about bariatric surgery for weight loss. ?The surgeon advises mother and daughter that she is a good candidate for surgery; however, she needs to lose at least 10kg before they can safely do the procedure.

Mother and daughter leave the consultation rooms with excitement and are straight into diet and exercise to shed those excess kilograms.

Three months later, they are back at the consultation rooms where the weigh-in shows that she has lost over 15kg! ?"Wonderful results!", she is told. ?"We can now proceed with the surgery".

Now what's morally and professionally wrong about this story? ?Of course, the young woman and her mother should have been told to go away and lose another 10kg, and then another. ?Bariatric surgery, in her case, would have been unnecessary, if she had been keep on her present course of voluntary weight loss.

Instead the surgery went ahead. ?She would have lost weight from the surgery but been shouldered with a lifetime of dependence on vitamin pills, B vitamin injections and chronic health problems over the short and longterm.

My observation of bypass surgery is that there are initial and often dramatic weight losses, along with improvements in related health problems like diabetes and joint pain. ?However; much of these benefits are cancelled out as the years progress. ?Issues related to malnutrition begin to take hold, diabetes reappears, deathly fatigue sets in, as does depression, blood pressure may be sky-high and the weight may gradually begin creeping upwards. ?What also creeps up are the number and potency of medications - blood pressure pills, diabetes medication and antidepressants are some of the most frequently prescribed.

Health issues that develop years after a procedure are often dismissed as unrelated

Bariatric surgery costs approximately $20,000 in New Zealand. ?This does not include the cost of treating the not so infrequent complications that can be many times more expensive than the initial surgery.

Not measured are the social consequences that may cancel out some of the benefits of weight loss. ?In some societies, it is an insult not to heartily tuck into the meal prepared by your host. ?Dating usually involves sitting down and enjoying a meal prepared by the suitor, or relaxing in a fine-dining restaurant. ?Socialising with your workmates may including downing a beer or two. ?It is not relaxing to know you may have to leave the room, sometime through the meal to vomit. ?It may be easier to avoid the discomfort and embarrassment of such occasions and remain a house hermit.

Obesity usually runs through a family. ?The father having the surgery does nothing for the rest of the family, including the children.

Treat the family dynamics - not the individual!

My healthy alternative to bariatric surgery

If I was approached by the Government, which now funds these operations out of tax-payer dollars, what would I do with $20,000? ?Here's an example of the plan:

Treat the entire family - not the individual

This is self-explanatory and common-sense. ?If family dynamics relating to eating, exercise and socialising are ?not taken into account, then failure is certain.

Be sensitive to ethnic needs

Eating is central to most societies and social occasions and food choices are important. ?These must be taken into account when counselling on food choices and eating practices.?

Correct metabolic imbalances and better manage any health issues

This is done with a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis. ?No need to say more about this as there is plenty to read about this on my blog.

Assign a personal chef and a nutritionist to the family

The nutritionist would visit the family to analyse their diet, organise their pantry and take them on shopping expeditions. ?There would be weekly home visits to ensure progress and compliance.

The chef would be in the home each evening for the first week, teaching the family how to cook healthy meals. ?This would reduce to once or twice a week thereafter.

Assign a personal trainer

Every morning at 6am their personal trainer will be knocking on the door to take the family through their paces. ?This may be a brisk walk in the morning sun or a strenuous cross-fit class.

Duration

We would go pretty hard-out for three months. ?It takes at least eight weeks for old habits to be replaced by new, healthy ones, so 12 weeks is sensible. ?After three months there will be a gradual withdrawal of the service gradually cutting the family loose to be fully independent of outside help.

Can I do this all for $20,000? ?I could do it for half that - But I'll take the 20k, thanks.

"Sounds like a good plan, Gary, so what's stopping you?"

It will never happen. ?It is pure fantasy. ?People have been brain-washed into expecting the easy quick-fix. ?They have been soothed into a sense of false security about the safety and the wonders of high-technology medical solutions. ?I don't wear a white coat. ?In addition, all the funding has been?corralled?by a small group of elite professionals and there is no way hopeful interlopers, like Gary Moller, are ever going to get their dirty little hands on THEIR money!

Paul Ryan facing hard choice on budget talks

Fresh from the campaign trail and mulling his options for the future, former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan will play a pivotal role in negotiations over the fiscal cliff and faces a choice of two paths.

The Wisconsin congressman, known for his zeal for budget cutting, could opt for ideological purity and emerge as a leading voice urging his fellow Republicans to resist tax increases and demand steep cuts in entitlement spending.

Or he could use his role as House Budget Committee chairman to push for the best deal possible for Republicans but then demonstrate bipartisanship by getting behind a compromise.

Either path holds perils for the Republican lawmaker, who became an instant focus of speculation as a potential 2016 White House contender following his failed vice presidential bid. If he insists on too hard a line in the budget talks, he could potentially open a rift with other leaders in his party and get blamed for scuttling a deal. On the other hand, any compromise could leave Ryan open to criticism from the Republican base and vulnerable to a challenger from the right in 2016.

Republican strategist Steve Schmidt said Ryan has an incentive to work toward an agreement.

?The ability to show you've been practical, the ability to show that you've compromised, the ability to show that you have bent the negotiations in your direction and got the best deal that you can, all of those things position you better than pure ideology in the context of a presidential campaign,? said Schmidt, a top adviser to John McCain?s 2008 presidential campaign. ?He has the ability to provide leadership in a situation like this and perhaps this will be his greatest test.?

But Ryan?s own history suggests that he would not cut any deal unless it went far enough toward his top priority: curbing spending on Medicare and other entitlements. When he served on the Simpson-Bowles deficit-reduction commission in 2010, he was one of seven on the 18-member panel who voted against the final proposal because he felt it didn?t do enough to restructure Medicare and thought the proposed increase in tax revenue was too high. The proposal fell three votes short of the ?supermajority? of 14 it would have needed to be sent to Congress for a vote.

In 2011, Ryan asked to be left off the supercommittee that was tasked with identifying further savings in the wake of a debt-ceiling agreement. He cited his own budget work and voiced doubts about how much the group could achieve. It did indeed fail, which is why lawmakers and the White House must now use the current lame-duck session of Congress to try to avert the $1.2 trillion in automatic budget cuts known as the sequester set to kick in at the start of next year.

This time, Ryan has more skin in the game. As a member of House leadership, he does not have the option of sitting out the fiscal cliff negotiations. In a change from the debt-ceiling talks, he has joined the daily Republican leadership meetings, alongside Ways and Means chairman Dave Camp, Committee on Energy and Commerce chairman Fred Upton. ?Chairman Ryan is back here because he wants to solve these problems,? said Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck.

House GOP staff, including Austin Smythe, the Budget Committee?s staff director, huddled with White House aides on the Hill last week to begin talking about the broad concepts that will guide negotiations, though no dollar amounts have been set yet. After Thanksgiving, once concepts are nailed down, the principals can begin negotiating.

Ryan has publicly echoed House Speaker John Boehner in signaling openness to revenue increases but not higher tax rates, meaning he might support the closing of tax loopholes or other revenue-raising steps. He was privy to the wording that Boehner used in the public remarks on the fiscal cliff he delivered the day after the election.
?He opposes raising tax rates because doing so would stifle economic growth and cost jobs,? said Conor Sweeney, a Ryan spokesman. He added that Ryan wants to see what the White House?s opening argument will be and whether President Obama will ?offer responsible solutions, identify specific spending cuts, and demonstrate leadership to tackle this pressing challenge.?

Ryan will press ?very, very hard? on long-term entitlement reform, said Bill Hoagland, a former aide to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who has been in touch with Ryan?s staff.

If Ryan can wring concessions from Democrats on entitlements, it could help his presidential ambitions. ?If he's running in two or four years from now he'll be able to say [the deficit was reduced] because of my insistence on entitlement reform,? said Hoagland, who is now a senior vice president at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Republicans feel confident in pressing for long-term entitlement reform as part of ?grand bargain? negotiations because polling on Medicare during the campaign suggested the issue was not a major liability for Ryan and Republican White House nominee Mitt Romney, despite a barrage of Democratic attacks zeroing in on the Wisconsin congressman?s Medicare plan.

Eric Ueland, Frist?s former chief of staff, said Republicans recognize that Ryan might have to cede some ground in the budget talks because Democrats hold a significant amount of leverage, given that they still control the Senate and that President Obama won his re-election bid. ?What he does and what he?s able to do is judged against the baseline,? said Ueland, now a vice president at the Duberstein Group.

But Ryan?s critics doubt Democrats will be able to negotiate with him. ?Nothing we?ve seen so far under Chairman Ryan suggests that he?s willing and or capable of negotiating bipartisan legislation. Hope springs eternal but I don?t have a lot of it,? said Jim Manley, a former aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who is now at QGA Public Affiars.

Instead of seeing his national stature enhanced, Manley said he hopes Ryan will become an ?afterthought? in the negotiations if he refuses to make any concessions. Alternatively, he could complicate Boehner?s ability to negotiate a deal by presenting a challenge from the right.

But Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a former Congressional Budget Office director, predicted Republican House lawmakers would present a united front. ?This is not a case where the administration?s going to divide and conquer,? said Holtz-Eakin, president of the American Action Forum.

Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist disagreed with the notion that the congressman would feel pressure to water down his own principles in order to portray himself as a pragmatic dealmaker. ?He will be both a man who can sell a plan to the rank and file and can sell a no vote to Boehner,? said Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Steven Smith, a political science professor at Washington University in St. Louis, wrote in an email that Ryan might emulate former Democratic Sen. Sam Nunn, a powerful voice on national security issues. In Ryan?s case, he could take a hard line during negotiations and only offer his support for a Boehner-backed deal at the last minute. For Nunn, this offered the appearance that he was careful and principled. But, Smith warned, ?This is not an easy path for a prospective presidential candidate.?

?First, endorsing a moderate solution risks alienating the core of the party,? he wrote, noting that it was unlikely Nunn could have won his party's nomination for president. ?Second, a long-term deal may take budget issues off the agenda and reduce the advantage that Ryan has over the field of candidates. Unfortunately, the alternative path, playing to the right and standing in the way of a Boehner deal with Obama, is not likely to be popular with the general electorate.?

For now, Ryan is keeping his cards close to the vest. Bill Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard and a leader in the effort to get Ryan into presidential politics, professed no knowledge of Ryan?s intentions.

?My strategy is to acknowledge Obama won, cut the best deal you can, and live to fight another day for big tax and entitlement reform,? he wrote in an e-mail.

As for Ryan?s, people will have to wait and see.

Turning a Home Into a Hospital - NYTimes.com

At age 96, my mother moved to New York City to live with me and my family in our two-bedroom Manhattan apartment after becoming increasingly isolated while living alone in Florida. She moved into my sons? bedroom surrounded by all manner of adolescent paraphernalia, including every style of trendy sneakers, a giant papier-m?ch? statue of Michael Jordan and a poster of Bob Marley.

Three years later, at age 99, she was hospitalized and diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Because of her advanced age, there was little to do to except make the last months of her life more comfortable. Her doctor arranged for home hospice care through Calvary. But part of me wanted to place her in a nursing home.

The idea of hospice care in my home overwhelmed me. I did not want my apartment to become a nursing facility, and the idea of personally taking care of my mother was frightening. I was preoccupied with thoughts and fears of losing her, and I was very afraid of witnessing her physical deterioration and her death.

As a psychotherapist in private practice, I treat people with emotional problems like anxiety and depression. I am introspective enough to know that I am comfortable with treating the mind, but squeamish about medical problems, especially serious medical issues.

Now my mother was dying, and I had to live with the uncertainty of what was going to happen. When would she no longer be able to bathe herself? Was she going to be bedridden? Incontinent?

Step by step, I overcame my fears, accepting the reality of our new situation. Looking back, the choice was inevitable ? and I am grateful I took the steps of that life-changing journey.

My husband encouraged me to take on the challenge of caring for my mother in our home. He thought it would be cruel to put her in a nursing home. Easy for him to say, I thought, since my mother?s physical care would fall predominately on me.

Upset over my dilemma, I was crying. My mother, in her hospital bed, asked, ?Why??

?I don?t know how I can continue taking care of you in our home,? I told her. But I asked her what she wanted to do.

?I want to go home,? she said. ?We will manage.?

So she left the hospital to again live with us.

The Calvary hospice nurse walked me through all the steps of home hospice care. After the first home visit, the nurse ordered an oxygen tank and told me there could be no smoking in the home or even in the hallway outside my apartment door, because the oxygen was flammable.

That made me uneasy. Although I was instructed how to use the tank, I was anxious that I would forget how to use it when the moment arrived that my mother had difficulty breathing. In my panic, I called the medical home care supply company to take the tank back. When my mother?s doctor told me that it was critical to have the oxygen available in case of an emergency, I relented. I was terrified that she might suffer.

My mother at that point had her full faculties and was able to get around. She could even walk, albeit very slowly, to the senior citizen?s center on our block and to the Jewish Community Center across the street, where she played mah-jongg and canasta. That stopped soon, however, and I had to order a wheelchair for her to use when she went out.

Calvary provided me with a home health aide for five hours a day and a social worker. That was helpful but stressful. Because of my work as a therapist, coordinating schedules was a challenge.

As she grew more ill, my mother became too weak to shower, dress or go to bathroom by herself. I had to hire an additional home health aide for the afternoon and for full days on weekends. Eventually, I needed to get an overnight aide.

I was surrounded by an army of hospital-like caretakers who used hand sanitizer immediately upon entering the apartment, ate in our kitchen, showered in the bathroom and slept with my mother in one of our two bedrooms. I felt the loss of control and a sense of chaos, which was made worse when my youngest son returned home after graduating from college and underwent emergency surgery for a torn A.C.L. He generously gave up his bedroom to my mother (and to the aide who slept there at night) and camped out in the living room.

My house had truly been turned upside down. But what kept me sane was knowing that the chaos was temporary, and that we were providing my mother with the care she needed, in the setting that had been her choice.

I had to learn to trust that the aides would act in my mother?s best interest. In fact, most of them were generous and devoted to my mother?s care to the end.

Her last days were not without a touch of humor. One night, the aide called me into the room telling me that my mother, still with her full faculties, was ?seeing smoke.? I thought, ?Is she hallucinating??

I sat down on the bed. My mother pointed to the Bob Marley poster. She asked, ?Is that famous man smoking?? She had looked at that poster for three years and never asked until then.

But another night, around 1 a.m., my son overheard my mother yelling, ?Don?t touch me.? He found the nighttime aide pushing my mother back into bed. The aide wanted to sleep through the night and did not want to be bothered taking my mother to the bathroom. I fired the aide the next day.

Gradually, I surrendered to the reality that my apartment had been turned into a nursing home. My mother now had an oxygen tank, a walker, a wheelchair, a shower chair, a commode, Depends and bed pads.

Still, I had said from the beginning that I did not want a hospital bed in my home. Its name alone symbolized the transformation of my home into a hospital. But two days before my mother?s death, I relented. My mother could not get up from the bed that she had been using. She needed the adjustable bed to lift and transfer her.

With the arrival of that bed, I finally accepted the new reality: my home was indeed transformed into a nursing home, despite all my initial fears about living with my dying mother in that environment.

At 99, just 8 months short of a century, my mother died in my home surrounded by family and the Bob Marley poster. It was a peaceful passage. She died with grace and dignity.

As I reflect on the experience, I am glad that I was able to be with my mother through the end of her journey. It was tough to watch this once strong, vital woman become thin and fragile. And as my last living parent, she was the buffer between myself and the reality of my mortality.

Still, the experience was emotionally rich and liberating. And, in the end, we were both at peace.

Stock mkt investing is not just about number crunching

Stock market investing is not just about number crunching and balance sheet analysis. It involves a bit of mind game too. In an interview with Business Line, Mr Parag Parikh, Chairman, Parag Parikh Financial Advisory Services, shares interesting insights on behavioural finance and how investors can use it to make investment decisions. Excerpts:

How does behavioural finance explain the market and its movements?

We all learn that stock markets are efficient and people make rational decisions to maximise their profits. Now, behavioural finance is exactly the opposite. It says that markets are not efficient, especially in the short run. Suppose you find Rs 5 coin on the road when you are walking. Now, why do you think no one saw it, despite so many walking on the road? In the same way, markets are not efficient. Now take the case of people making rational decisions. If this were true, how would you explain people giving money to charities, or spending on parties to celebrate birthdays?

These are not rational acts because money is going out, but people still do it out of their hearts. More often than not, we make decisions from our hearts and not mind. That humans make irrational decisions at every point of time is also the reason why markets are so interesting and have a full industry following it.

How do you integrate behavioural finance into the services you offer?

My idea is to educate investors, to make them know that there are no short-cuts in the markets. The way markets are going up, banks are lending margin money and some of the mutual fund houses are advising investors, it all gives the wrong impression that one can make money in the market by simply buying and selling stocks. These are wrong notions. We cannot sow a seed today and expect it to become a tree tomorrow. It has to go through various stages and seasons to become one.

What we do is adopt a slow and steady approach. Our clients believe in our philosophy of value investing; we don't take money from people just because they are ready to give it us.

So why are you then entering the mutual fund business now?

The minimum entry amount for our PMS business is Rs 5 lakh. By entering the mutual funds space, we can cater to the small investor. He is the person who needs it the most. MF is a very good vehicle to meet their needs.

Here again, we will be different and will not concentrate on amassing AUM. We will concentrate on performance alone, using value-investing and behavioural finance. This is what we did in 2008. When the markets crashed, we went to our clients and told them to give us money!

You have to buy when others are selling and sell when others are buying. This is the basic concept of buying a value.

But unfortunately in the stock markets, investors find a stock less risky if everybody is buying and the stock prices are going up. And they find it more risky, when nobody is buying and the stock prices are down. That's the challenge we have to work with.

How do you use behavioural finance to invest?

We don't have a brilliant team, no one with capabilities to point out exactly how the markets will move! What we instead do is identify a good business, with a credible management and with a good moat around its business, strong network and less debt. We only buy such businesses and at the time they are available at a discount in the market. And when is that? When there is excessive fear in the market. We buy at that time and stay away from the market after that.

With so many companies tapping the primary markets, what is your view on IPOs as an investment vehicle?

I don't believe in investing in initial public offerings. Tell me why are there no IPOs in bad markets? Why do they come only in good markets?

That's because in good markets people are willing to pay any price for anything. The management agrees to sell their shares during good times because they know they will get a much better value for their shares.

And why don't companies come out with IPOs during bear markets? Well, because promoters feel that their share price should be valued higher than the rest of the market.

Why do you think retail interest took so much time to pick up?

Interest is how you see it. With the market picking up, we will certainly see retail activity picking up, as greed will then set in. Markets feed on greed and fear. Interestingly, when the markets offer opportunities for investments, there is immense fear in the market. That is also why only few are successful in the stock markets. We all want instant gratification.

What is your view on the market now? Do you think they are expensive?

See, here again we are following the insanity that the society has created. Now, Sensex has only 30 stocks, while Nifty has 50. Is that the market? No, as there are over 7,000 listed stocks! We are looking at the wrong barometer.

Moreover, how do companies get into these indices? By virtue of their market capitalisations alone. They are all big companies but not necessarily good companies. The market of more than 7,000 stocks outside of it is where the value is. Besides, mutual funds and institutions play with the Nifty all the time, there is no value per se there. A look at the open interest on Nifty will tell you that most institutions are into it already.

So what should retail investors do?

For retail investors, I would say the best time to buy stocks is when they don't feel like buying. And that brings me to the question - who is a retail investor?

An investor isn't someone who invests everyday. He is someone who invests once in probably two years, or whenever there's an opportunity. The rest are all punters. What advice can you give to punters?

Bomb hits Pakistani Shiite procession, kills 5

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) ? A bombing claimed by the Taliban killed at least five people and wounded some 90 others at a Shiite religious procession in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, police said, as the minority Muslim sect observes the annual Ashoura holiday.

At least 30 have now died in five attacks on Shiites claimed by the Pakistani Taliban over the past five days, while about 100 were wounded in the run up to the holiday, which commemorates the 7th century death of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson. The schism between Sunni and Shiite Muslims dates back to that time.

Sunday's explosion went off as hundreds of Shiites were passing through the main intersection of the city of Dera Ismail Khan, area police official Abdul Sattar said. An initial investigation suggested a bomb was planted near a shop along the procession route, he added.

Several of injured are in serious condition, said local hospital official Dr. Faridullah Mahsud, adding that three members of a paramilitary unit providing security were among the injured. Mahsud confirmed the five deaths.

The Pakistani Taliban, a Sunni extremist group, frequently attacks Shiites, who they consider heretics. Ashoura ceremonies are a prime targets, since they draw large crowds that march in processions to mourn the martyred Imam Hussein.

Qais Abbas, a Shiite survivor, said the procession was in the Chogla intersection of the city when the bomb went off. One of his relatives was in critical condition, he said, but he and others were moving the wounded to other hospitals that were better equipped.

"Here we are not getting proper care for them, there are not enough doctors or medicines," he said.

The same city was hit by a similar bombing on Saturday, which killed seven and injured 30. On Wednesday night, a Taliban suicide bomber struck a Shiite Muslim procession in Rawalpindi, a garrison city near Islamabad, killing 17 people. Also Wednesday, the Taliban set off two bombs outside a Shiite mosque in the southern city of Karachi, killing one person and wounding 15 others. Pakistani Taliban have claimed responsibility for all the attacks, with spokesman Ehasanullah Ehsan saying by telephone that the group will not relent and "looks forward to more ahead."

Authorities have deployed thousands of additional police across the country to beef up security for the holy day. Mobile phone service has been shut down in all the major cities to prevent such bombings, which officials say often use cellular phones as remote detonators.

nimitarora53: Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your Business ...

Spam can come in many forms, including ?special? toolbars and comment spam designed to post comments on your site that are false and sometimes embarrassing.? In a recent post from Google, we?re told that Google will penalize our sites if too much spam is tracked to the site.? This could be disastrous for your business and frustrating for you.?

Here are two ways that unchecked spam can hurt and possibly ruin your sites:

  • Rankings.? Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the main way that most marketers build their sites for quality traffic and great rankings.? But spamming techniques can ruin your good rankings by luring visitors to your site(s) by droves in an unethical manner.

Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your BusinessSpamming techniques such as invisible text, stuffing unrelated keywords into your content, and duplicate content can alert search engines that you?re contriving to get traffic in an unethical manner, and they will ?red flag? those sites and penalize the site owners.

  • Credibility.? It?s so easy to lose your online credibility with spamming techniques.? Blogs are especially susceptible to these methods because visitors and participators in the blog don?t want to be inundated with useless content and multiple backlinks that have nothing to do with the purpose of the blog.

These spammers can use the legitimate backlinks on your blog to sell to other ?black hat? Internet Markets, causing your blog followers to fall by the wayside like flies.

Your reputation and ethics are so important to anything you do online while building your site(s).? Keep appraised of spammers who are out for a quick buck and who can ruin interest in your online efforts.

Web Spam Vs. Email Spam

You should know that there?s a difference between web spam and email spam.? The simplest explanation is that email spam is out for you to purchase a product, and web spammers (comments and/or blog posts) want your visitors to purchase their products.? You?re not the target ? but your clients are ? and that can drive them off of your site or blog in droves.

Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your BusinessThere is a service that you can turn to that will automatically delete comment and blog spam so that you don?t have to worry about it anymore.? The service is called Akismet, and you can access it through plugins such as WordPress or the Akismet API.? All you have to do is register and API key (like a password) which is your own private access to your account.

Then, each time a comment, pingback or trackback?appears on your site, the Akismet service tests it and either Okays it or turns it down.? You don?t have to do a thing ? and, you can be assured that the spam designed to ruin your site and steal sales and customers from you is taken care of.? Click Here to Tweet this Post.

When you use a plugin such as Akismet to stop spam from invading your site, you?ll keep Google and other search engines from penalizing your sites and from losing credibility with your followers.

Malicious Ways that Spam Can Ruin Your BusinessI?ve spoken about ?black hat techniques? before, and web spamming is definitely one of the worst.? They?re hoping you?ll disregard them because these spam techniques use flattery, praise and other positive comments to catch you off guard.

There?s no way for you to know if these comments and posts are legitimate.? That?s why it?s a good thing to use a plug in like Akismet to check it out for you.? Just be sure you?re protected from these spammers who are thieves and who can run your business off the Internet.?
