MLB Player Mark Buehrle?s Pit Bull Banned in Canada

Former Miami Marlins pitcher Mark Buehrle is getting all set to head to Canada after being traded, but has hit a little snafu ? his American Staffordshire terrier (a pit bull breed), Slater, is not allowed in the country due to a law, Yahoo! Sports reports.

The province of Ontario has banned pit bulls since 2005, so it looks like Buerhle will have to live in another part of the country with the closest being Quebec. That?s quite a long commute.

Fans of Buehrle know he won?t give up on the issue, since this isn?t the first time he?s encountered trouble regarding his dog.

While playing in Miami, the MLB star had to live in a different county because Miami-Dade County has a pit bull ban. So, the athlete and dedicated animal owner lived in Broward County just to keep his pet!

Furthermore, he and his wife led a petition to end the ban and even founded the charity Sox for Strays, an organization dedicated to animal adoption.

It doesn?t stop there. Buerhle hasn?t been shy voicing his opinions on animal cruelty, especially towards NFL player Michael Vick.

?Even if you are not a dog lover, how can you sit there and make two dogs fight and one is going to die?? he said about Vick. ?How could you do that if you are somewhat sane?

?[Vick] had a great year and a great comeback, but there were times where we watched the game and I know it?s bad to say, but there were times where we hope he gets hurt. Everything you?ve done to these dogs, something bad needs to happen to these guys.?

I think that says it all. Buehrle has a total of four dogs, and it seems he will do anything to not split up his family.
