The Technology
The standard used in 3.5G HSDPA is an improvement on the protocol of 3G WCDMA technology used. With HADPA, the rate of data transfer with the W-CDMA improves by a factor of at least five years. It is theoretically possible to achieve transmission speeds of 10.8 Mbps HSDPA. Therefore, HSDPA will be very favorable for transmission areas, such as video and music streaming, which requires high performance demonstrated.
Now the question is how to improve WCDMA HSDPA. HSDPA uses different modulation and coding, creating a new channel in WCDMA. This channel is called High Speed Downlink Shared Channel or HS DSCH. This channel is generated such that it allows for greater download speed. However, this only allowed down the channel, so that the source can send data to the receiver, but that means not vice versa. You can not read data off your phone to the source with HSDPA. HS-DSCH channel is shared among users, so a more efficient use of radio signals and help a greater download speed. HSDPA uses bandwidth 5 mhz, updating technology allows a smooth transition to Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS).
In HS-DCH channel for the dissemination of variable factor and fast power control of WCDMA channels are removed. The new technology uses adaptive modulation and coding (AMC), fast packet scheduling at the base station and the rapid proliferation of the base station. The relays are realized through hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ), where additional redundancy concept comes into play. Here, different codes of the data relay with the original transmission codes. In other words, data received at the base station ?processed? can provide lossless data at the time of original transmission to be traversed. The result of this process is that the user device, packets received without errors, whereby a better quality for the video and sound.
HSDPA is here to stay?
Well, only time can answer this. Many telecommunications companies to deploy mobile 3G (WCDMA) networks and that?s a positive sign. It would be easy to upgrade to 3.5 g on a 3G network is available. Some companies offer HSDPA end of 2006. However, the speed downlink this is really very small, 1.8 to 3.6 Mbps, the theoretical potential of 8-10 Mbps.
The success of HSDPA will also depend on many other factors. Other technologies such as CDMA2000, 1xev-DO and WiMAX, which promises high speed data transmission. In addition, HSDPA is an improvement over the standard WCDMA, so that you can only gain acceptance in places where W-CDMA has been implemented successfully.
